What is Abacus?

The abacus is an ancient calculating tool that dates back centuries. Early societies used some Abacus form of it to count and do arithmetic long before they invented numbers. It is a tool with sliding beads to represent numbers. It has rows or columns of beads that represent the digits of your number. You'll have a ones place, a tens place, a hundred place, a thousand place, and so on.

The abacus system of mental calculation is a system where children mentally visualize an abacus to do calculations. The standard abacus can be used to perform addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication; the abacus can also be used to extract square-roots and cubic roots.

At iNAVMO we use the abacus because it is an invaluable tool to help children understand mathematics.
